Good evening my friends,
Tonight I’m happy to share with you the first mixed media Christmas cards for this year.
Although we are here totally spoiled with the good weather and outside it feels more like the beginning of September I thought it’s a good time to start on my Christmas cards.
So here they are, hope you like them!
So, I started with a piece of heavy weight watercolor paper and embossed the snowflakes with clear embossing powder; then I applied my homemade modeling paste (you can read more about it here) through Tim Holtz stencil, for more texture.
When everything was dry I began spraying and inking to my heart’s content! LOL
For this purpose I’ve used ColourArte Radiant Rain (Namorado, Playful Peony and Autumn Leaf for the pink one and Seafoam, Teal zircon and Pewter for the blue one) and Primary Elements in Mango Freeze, Sunset Glow, Rose Gold, Teal Zircon, Mystic Blue and Warm Gray. While I was waiting for the background to dry, I started working on the little trees. All the texture you can see there it was achieved only with gesso and the heat tool. First I diecut two small trees. I applied on both with a palette knife a generous amount of gesso and then I sandwich them. When I pulled them apart, all that yummy texture was there in it’s glory. I left them dry and I inked/sprayed them. Drying the trees I started to play with the heat gun pretty near to the surface (be careful not to burn it though) and the gesso started to bubble and here is the result. I think it’s looking pretty cool, don’t you think?
I went back to the background and I started to give it more depth by shading around the snowflakes, leaves and berries using the Primary elements until I was pleased with the effect and then, using an ink dauber I applied white heavy gesso for a more dreamy look.
I glued the trees together using Finnabair soft gel medium in a Fineline applicator bottle.
I diecut few snowflakes that I “painted” with soft gel medium and then sprinkled Finnabair glitter for a bit of sparkle, added some Prima Crystals and few splatters with diluted white gesso and here you have them.
